Christian Education and Formation

"Do not be conformed by this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the working of God—what is good, and just and whole."
—Letter of Paul to the Church in Rome, Chapter 12, Verse 2

The story of the world consistently impinges on the people of God. It asks us to conform to values that Jesus attempted to counter and deconstruct every day of his earthly life—values based on the false promises of materialism, status, and racism. Our life together within the St. John's parish community seeks to reflect a different story and a different system of values.

Here, Christian formation seeks to transform and renew us by sharing the Biblical story, centered in the way and teaching of Jesus Christ. It is the story of faith, hope, love, trust, mercy, forgiveness, relationship, justice, peace and the integrity of creation.

At St. John's we share the Christian story with all ages. We welcome children and youth and recognize them as full partners in ministry with the adults of our parish. It is their birthright as Christians to worship in the Church, and we rejoice in their presence with us.

Christian formation occurs throughout the activities of St. John's, but on a more organized basis through the Church School, Rite 13, Journey to Adulthood, and through the Adult Education classes and gatherings.
